Hi-Line Football: Beeters, Pioneers, Knights all cruise

It was another busy weekend of high school football along the Hi-Line and once again, the Fort Benton Longhorns were one of the big storylines as they knocked off Cascade, 48-20 on the road Friday night.

Landon Taylor, who has been a driving force behind the Longhorns fast start to the season, was outstanding again, accounting for four total touchdowns. He threw two touchdowns, but also scored a rushing touchdown and also returned a kickoff for a score.

Connor Schnabel also had a big night for the Longhorns, with 122 yards rushing and two scores. Fort Benton (4-1, 3-0) is tied for Centerville for first place in the Northern C B Division. The two teams will meet in Centerville Friday night, in a game that could decide who gets the divisions automatic playoff berth.

Chinook 50, Rocky Boy 0

Elsewhere in the B Division of the Northern C, the Chinook Sugarbeeters got their first division win of the season and, in the process, kept their playoff hopes alive, shutting out Rocky Boy 50-0 on the road Friday night.

Trajan Hannum found the end zone twice and James Christenson added a defensive touchdown for the Beeters, as Chinook built a 44-0 halftime lead over the Stars. Chinook (2-3, 1-2) scored a total of five rushing touchdowns. The Beeters will host Simms Friday night.

CJI 56, HLP 12

In the A Division of the Northern C, Chester-Joplin-Inverness played host to Hays-Lodge Pole in a battle of the last two winless teams within the sub-division.

But thanks to an outstanding effort from Spencer Richter, who tossed three touchdown passes, the Hawks cruised to a 56-12 win over the Thunderbirds Friday night in Chester. While Richter threw three touchdowns, all of them went to Evan Dahinden, who scored on 52-yard, 34-yard and 35-yard receptions. Jackson Diemert also scored on a pair of rushing touchdowns. For the T-Birds, both touchdowns came courtesy of Chance Main, who scored on a 72-yard kick return and a 54-yard punt return.

CJI (1-4, 1-2) will face Great Falls Central on the road Saturday in search of a second straight win. HLP (0-5, 0-3) will host Belt Saturday.

Big Sandy 63, Sunburst 26

It has been a few years since the Big Sandy Pioneers have made the Six-Man football playoffs, but after knocking off Sunburst Saturday at home, the Pioneers are just a couple wins away from doing just that.

Weston Allderdice continued his stellar campaign with four rushing touchdowns in the win for the Pioneers. Kade Strutz also scored on a pair of rushing touchdowns, as Big Sandy rallied from a 20-16 first quarter deficit, to win 63-26, thanks to a 27-0 spurt in the second quarter.

Big Sandy (4-1, 2-1) will host North Star (3-2, 1-2) in a game that could very well decide who the fourth playoff team is from the Six-Man North.

North Star 48, Augusta 0

The North Star Knights were looking for their first win in the Six-Man North this season and they got it Saturday with a 48-0 romp over Augusta.

Dylan Miller scored two rushing touchdowns in the win and also returned the opening kickoff 66 yards for a score. Miller also threw a touchdown pass to Bailey Spicher, who also intercepted a pass and returned it 42 yards for a defensive score. Devon Miller also pitched in with a 66-yard touchdown run.

The Knights will travel to Big Sandy Friday for a critical game in the North Division. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

In other football action along the Hi-Line this past weekend, the Harlem Wildcats of the Northern B, lost in convincing fashion to Shelby 61-12. The Wildcats will host Fairfield in their next game Oct. 6. Box Elder also played Saturday, on the road at Great Falls Central and wound up losing to the Mustangs 71-0. The Bears (1-4, 1-2) will travel to Choteau Friday for another Northern C conference tilt.
