Montana State University-Northern has two events celebrating culture and diversity coming up, with a Mexican carnival set for this weekend and the Fourth Annual Festival of Nations, "A Day in the Phillipines," set for Saturday, Oct. 14.

Saturday's free carnival, a Kermesse, runs from noon to 4 p.m. in Northern's Student Union Building Ballroom and features music by Dimención Norteña of Walla Walla, Washington.

The kermesse includes a presentation about norteño music, a genre of Mexican music, skill games, food for sale, dance demonstrations and lessons, and open dancing for all ages.

A Day in the Phillipines Oct. 14, also in the SUB Ballroom, starts at 10:30 a.m. and features Salto Filipino Group from Lethbridge, Alberta, a member of the Southern Alberta Ethnic Association.

It includes local talent, international food country displays and activities, a silent auction, vendors and door prizes.

Tickets are $4 at the door for adults and $1 for children, with early tickets $3 for adults and $1 for children. People dressing in traditional international clothing will gain free admission.

Tickets are available at Bear Paw Meats, Ben Franklin Crafts and at Northern's SUB Information Desk.
