Family-friendly health fair scheduled in Chinook

CHINOOK- The community medical center in Chinook is inviting people to a day of fun and health the end of this month.

"The fall health fair may be a little later this year, but there will be lots of fun and education for the whole family," Sweet Medical Center said in a release about the health fair. "On Friday, Oct. 27, from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m., area residents are welcome and encouraged to come to the Blaine County Event Center.

"There is no school that day, so bring the kids too," the center added in the release.

Nora Conner, Sweet Medical Center's outreach and enrollment coordinator, said she is excited for this year's health fair,.

"We are trying to expand our health fair to have more than just blood draw, " she said. "We hope to help educate as well as entertain. So please bring the family and see what we have available."

The event will include multiple stations for children, including a life-size Operation game built by the Chinook High School FFA, the release said, adding that the day includes a costume contest for all ages. The grand prize of the contest is season passes to the Chinook City Pool and Havre Ice Dome, second prize is a gift certificate to Master Sports and third prize is a year's supply of new books.

People at the fair will be able to get their flu shot, have blood drawn for health screenings and get their blood pressure checked. The Blaine County Health Department will also be handing out free home colon cancer screening kits for ages 50 to 75. The Blaine County Ambulance service will be offering free electrocardiograms - EKGs - to be kept on file at the clinic and the hospital. Carrie Mundlin will be offering free chair massages. Ashlee Motsay will demonstrate exercises. The Blaine County Library will have coloring and STEM toy stations, a reading nook and prize drawings. Additional booths will include: Plant a Seed...Read, Blaine County Extension SNAP-Ed, Youth Dynamics, Cancer Support Group, Tobacco Cessation and District IV HRDC's Low Income Energy Assistance Program.

Snacks will be served, the kids will receive a free cinch sack and the September Sweet Escapes drawing will also be held at the fair. A few tickets still were available for people who had not bought one. If you have not purchased your ticket yet, there are still some available.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend the 2017 Sweet Family Health Fair Friday, Oct. 27, the release said, adding that there is no need to call ahead, simply fast after midnight if you want to participate in the health screenings.
