Northern runners post strong times at MSU-B

After a break in their season, the Montana State University-Northern Lights and Skylights' cross country teams resumed action with tough races last Saturday in Billings.

MSU-N took part in the Yellowjacket Open, hosted by Montana State-Billings. The meet featured the NCAA Division II Yellowjackets, as well as Black Hills State, Rocky Mountain College and Central Wyoming.

Both Northern teams finished fifth in the team races, with the MSU-N women scoring 109 points and the men finishing at 107.

The Skylights got an outstanding performance by freshman Ashley McCready, who finished in 14th place with a time 20:56.4, while Nicole Parsons came in 17th at 21:26.9. Courtney Cota (22:26.1) and McKenna Barkus (22:36.8) were next for Northern at 27th and 28th, respectively. Breck Don (22:49.2), rounded out the scoring for Northern with a 31st-place finish.

Luke Karnauskas continued his fine freshman campaign for the Lights, with an 18th-place finish at 23:26.7, while Amos Taiswa finished at 20th with a time of 24:01.1. Kai Krumweide (24:23.0) finished in 23rd place for the Lights, while Riley Dennis (25:38.2) and Gabe Hallock (27:32.4) came in 32nd and 35th, respectively.

Northern continues its season at this weekend Lewis-Clark State Invitational in Lewiston, Idaho.
