Letter to the Editor - Ratliff would be asset in city government

Editor,

I am happy to endorse Lindsey Ratliff for Havre’s City Council.

The first impression I had of Lindsey when she came to Havre in 2013 to teach history at Havre High School was “This is an intelligent young woman with enthusiasm and energy.” That impression has not changed. However, I have learned a few other things about her since then.

I learned that she is community- and government-minded. One of the first things she did at the high school was create a Current Issues class to encourage students to learn about their country in real time and to care about what happens. She began taking students to Close-Up, an event for students to experience Washington, D.C., and interact with their representatives, helping them to realize the importance of becoming informed citizens.

Lindsey is not only concerned about our government, but also about the individuals who are affected by the decisions made. She wasted no time in involving herself in community activities as well, getting to know the community and the local citizens. She leads by example.

I learned that she is an open-minded and critical thinker and wants to fully understand all sides of an issue. If she doesn’t know something, she talks to others and listens before drawing any conclusions. Havre faces some contentious issues, and having her voice of reason will benefit us all.

Lindsey has made personal, family and community commitments that promise to keep her involved in Havre for the long term. She will be an asset to Havre’s City Council, and I have complete trust that she will serve us well.

Sincerely,

Karla Bolken

Havre
