HHS spikers best Browning in four

The Havre High volleyball team was on the road Thursday night in Browning and despite getting the Indians' best effort, the Blue Ponies survived to earn their third straight win.

The two former Central A rivals met for the second time this season and the Ponies, who won the first match, were able to complete the season sweep, knocking off the Indians in four sets by the scores of 25-13, 22-25, 25-12 and 25-22. With the win, the Ponies are now 6-8 overall and will get a week off before hosting Livingston and Belgrade next Friday and Saturday at the HHS gymnasium.

Yet, before the Ponies got to enjoy their week away from competition, they had to take care of the Indians, who were determined not to get swept.

In the first set, Havre took care of business and grabbed the 1-0 lead in the match with the 25-13 win. But for the only time in seven sets between the two teams this season, Browning rallied to win game two 25-22, tying things up at 1-1.

In the third set, Havre took control of the match once again, winning 25-12 and despite a strong effort from the Indians in the fourth set, HHS was able to close the match out thanks to a 25-22 win.

The Ponies finished the match with 34 kills, while Browning managed only 17. Havre also had 10 aces compared to just two for the Indians, as well as 44 digs compared to 27. Both Cassidy and Kadyn Acor had big nights for Havre, as each finished with a match-high seven kills. Senior Camryn Huston also play a key role, registering six kills and two blocks.

Katie Donaldson also had a big night for Havre, finishing with a team-high 12 digs, while also pitching in with two aces. Alex Donaldson added three aces for HHS, which also got 19 assists from Sam Oliver and 14 assists from Peyton Brown. On the other side of things, Olivia Hall was the top performer for Browning, as she finished with two aces, three kills and 14 assists.

The win was the third straight for Havre. It was also the Ponies' second win over a Class A team this season. HHS is now 6-8 overall but is still 0-3 in the Central A, a record it hopes to improve next week with matches against Livingston and Belgrade, Oct.19-20 in Havre.
