Hi-Line Volleyball: Rocky Boy tops Harlem; Box Elder wins twice

Hi-Line Volleyball Roundup

One week and just a few more matches is all that's left before the start of the District 6C East volleyball tournament. And the remainder of those matches will be played early this week, as school lets out this weekend for the Montana Teachers Association weekend.

Last week's action started all the way back on Tuesday when Rocky Boy knocked off Harlem in a five-setter. The two Class B rivals played a great match, with the Morning Stars winning by scores of 25-23, 21-25, 27-25, 25-27 and 15-9.

Jaylynn Mitchell had 15 kills and five blocks for Rocky Boy, while Sean Henry had eight aces. Eleesha Bell tallied seven kills for Harlem, while Raegan Conlan added 13 digs.

Thursday night, Rocky Boy couldn't keep the momentum going, as the Morning Stars were defeated by Choteau in District 1B play. The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-16, 25-16 and 25-13. Mitchell again led the way for Rocky Boy with six kills.

Harlem was right back in action Thursday night as well, and the Wildcats lost another tough one, falling to Whitewater by scores of 25-21, 23-25, 26-24 and 25-22. Eleesha Bell and Skylee Dirden had five kills apiece, while Bell finished with four blocks.

In a very important 6C East match Thursday night, Chinook overwhelmed Chester-Joplin-Inverness by scores of 25-11, 25-18 and 25-18 in Chinook. Kourtney Hanson had seven kills and five blocks, while Hailey Bell served up five aces for the Sugarbeeters. Khloe Kamerzell had a strong match for CJI, with five kills and two aces.

In another important 6C East match, North Star remained unbeaten with a three-set sweep of Big Sandy Friday night. The Knights beat the Pioneers by scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-13, to remain in first place. Peytan King, Grace Farinas and Lily Pedersen each tallied six kills for the Knights.

Friday night saw Box Elder knock off Hays-Lodge Pole in an easy three-set win. It was the start of a good weekend for the Bears, who continued their season Saturday with a four-set thriller over Gerladine-Highwood. Box Elder beat the Rivals by scores of 25-22, 20-25, 26-24 and 25-18.

Saturday wasn't as easy for the Knights or Pioneers, however.

North Star fell to the Havre High junior varsity team by scores of 25-14, 14-25, 25-18, 15-25 and 15-3 in a back-and-forth affair. Paij Peterson had 17 kills for the Knights to go with 17 assists. Jewel Wicks added 14 digs.

Big Sandy was steam rolled by Northern C favorite Belt Saturday, by scores of 25-6, 25-16 and 25-14.
