Hi-Line Volleyball: Chinook sweeps final regular season matches

Hi-Line Volleyball Roundup

With district tournaments about to begin, and school out for half of the week, last week's slate of high school volleyball games on the Hi-Line was a light one.

But, last week also signaled the end of the regular season, so the matches that were played, were certainly important ones.

The final week of the regular season began with Chinook sweeping Hays-Lodge Pole Monday night, then the Sugarbeeters beat Box Elder in a hard-fought match Tuesday night in Chinook. The Beeters beat the Bears by scores of 25-18, 25-13, 23-25 and 25-22. Megan Molyneaux had nine kills for Chinook, while Carrie Hofer had 23 digs. Box Elder got five kills and two blocks by Lilly Gopher, while Joelnelle Momberg served three aces.

Chinook finished in second place in the District 6C East with a 8-2 conference record. Box Elder finished fourth at 5-5.

Last Tuesday also saw the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks hand the North Star Knights their only loss in the regular season. CJI beat the rival Knights by scores of 25-20, 18-25, 25-22 and 25-22. Kim Ghekiere had 14 kills and four blocks for the Hawks, while Kayonna Fraser had 19 digs. Paij Peterson finished with 16 assists and 17 digs for the Knights.

North Star finished in first place in the 6C East with a 9-1 record, while CJI finished third at 6-4. Big Sandy was fifth at 2-8 and HLP was sixth at 0-10.

In Class B action last week, Malta beat Harlem Tuesday by scores of 25-12, 25-2, 21-25 and 25-7. The Wildcats, who finished the regular season with a loss to Wolf Point and a win over Poplar last weekend, got four kills from Taylor Stiffarm, while Taeshon Scheaffer had four aces. The Wildcats will be the No. 5 seed at this week's District 2B Tournament, which runs Friday and Saturday in Wolf Point.

Rocky Boy also wrapped up its regular season last week. The much-improved Morning Stars were swept by Shelby last Wednesday, falling by scores of 25-6, 25-13 and 25-11. Jill Top Sky had four kills for Rocky Boy, while Kiara Small had two aces. Rocky Boy will play in the 1B Tournament Friday and Saturday in Choteau.

Meanwhile, the District 6C East Tournament will be held Thursday and Friday in Chester. The top three teams there will advance to next week's Northern C Divisional in Chinook.
