A Box Elder man received two years with the Department of Corrections for hitting a detention officer in the face.

Francisco Delrosa Valencia Jr., born in 1974, received two years with the Department of Corrections Monday in District Court in Havre for assaulting a detention officer. The sentence is part of a plea deal.

A Havre Police Department officer brought Valencia to the Hill County Detention Officer Oct. 21, 2016.

A detention staff  deputy then escorted Valencia to a holding cell, where he removed his handcuffs. Valencia then began hitting his head on the wall. The deputy then grabbed Valencia to keep him from hurting himself. Valencia tried to spin around, but was stopped by the deputy from doing so. Valencia then swung backwards with his right hand and hit the deputy in the face and knocked off his glasses.

Other deputies saw this and came to help.

Valencia has a history of arrests and convictions.

He was found guilty by a U.S. District Court jury in Great Falls of sexual abuse of a minor.

Valencia was arrested Aug. 26, 2016, on charges of violation of conditions of release, partner or family member assault, resisting arrest and criminal mischief after a caller reported a domestic disturbance.

Valencia was arrested Sept. 26, 2016, on violations of conditions release in relation to a 24/7 Sobriety Program violation.

In August, Valencia was sentenced to 180 days in jail, 158 days suspended and 22 credited, for criminal mischief, pecuniary loss less than $1,500; was sentenced to 10 days in jail, all days credited, for disorderly conduct; and was ordered to pay $10 restitution on the case.

In a later case, Valencia was sentenced to 180 days in jail, 150 days suspended and 30 credited, for resisting arrest.
