Christmas comes to Havre Saturday

Havre will put its holiday spirit on display Saturday, with a series of Christmas-themed events.

The holiday fare will begin at 4 p.m. after the SubZero SuperHero Polar Plunge at Town Square.

This is the second year the Polar Plunge fundraiser for local Special Olympians will coincide with a slate of events that have become area holiday traditions.

BNSF and the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their Santa Run after the plunge.

Runners, many dressed as Santa, Mrs. Claus, elves, reindeer or in other holiday-themed costumes, will run or walk south on Third Avenue to Ninth Street and the half a mile back to Town Square.

Prizes will be awarded for best overall Santa or Mrs. Claus, best adult holiday costume, best youth costume and fastest times in men’s, women’s and youth divisions.

Winners will receive Chamber gift certificates.

Registration will be 4 p.m at Norman’s Ranch & Sportswear. The race starts at 4:30 p.m.

The cost to participate in the run is $10.

The Community Christmas Tree Lighting will be 5 p.m. at Town Square.

Vendors will provide food and drinks. Santa and Mrs. Claus will help light the tree and Sponge Bob will make an appearance. The Havre High School Choir will lead the crowd in Christmas carols.

People at the tree lighting will get the chance to enter drawings for four Chamber gift certificates and four kids baskets.

After the Community Tree Lighting, the Boys & Girls Club of the Hi-Line will hold its annual Festival of Trees fundraiser at 7 p.m. in the Multipurpose club’s Room at 500 First Ave.

The annual fundraiser generates money for the club’s after-school and summer programs.

Individuals. organizations and businesses will decorate and donate Christmas trees with imaginative themes to be sold to bidders during a live auction.

The fundraiser will also include a no-host bar, games, and refreshments.

Games prizes and auction items this year will include a TV stand with a fire place underneath, a quilt a seaside vacation, and much more.
