HHS' Aageson named 2017 Class A All-State

The 2017 high school football season was disappointing for the Havre Blue Ponies, but when the Class A All-State team was released, the Ponies still found themselves represented among the best gridiron players in the state.

The Class A football season wrapped up this past weekend, along with the other classifications, with Columbia Falls knocking off Hamilton in the state championship game. It was the first ever state championship in football for the Wildkats, who have a total of 10 selections on the All-State team, four on offense and six on defense.

Browning, which had a historic season and the made the Class A playoffs for the first time in decades, was second with seven honorees. Hamilton and Dillon tied for the third with six selections each, followed by Billings Central, Sidney and Lewistown who all had five.

When it comes to the Ponies, just one player earned his way onto the All-State team and that was senior Ivar Aageson, who was named to the team as wide receiver. Aageson, who also received First-Team All-Conference honors in the Central A, made the team after hauling in 50 receptions this season for a total of 604 yards.

The wide receiver had multiple games with more than 100 yards receiving, including a 12-catch, 138-yard performance against Glendive. He also had nine catches for 119 yards in a home loss to Laurel. The senior had at least three receptions in each of the eight games he played this past season and also had 66 yards or more in seven of those eight contests. He also finished the season with four total touchdowns, three receiving and one rushing.
