Train hits vehicle in Rudyard

A BNSF Railway train hit a vehicle Tuesday night in Rudyard, BNSF and law enforcement officials said this morning.

The collision happened at 9:14 p.m. at the Rudyard Main Street crossing, and no one was injured, Montana Highway Patrol dispatch and a BNSF spokesperson said.

The type of vehicle struck was not available.

BNSF Public Affairs Director Ross Lane said one occupant was in the vehicle. Before the impact, the gates and lights were working and activated, and the engineering crew sounded the warning whistle. He did not know if the vehicle was stopped on the tracks or if it was moving.

No one on the train crew was hurt, Lane said.

The MHP trooper who investigated the incident was not available today to provide further information on the vehicle or whether any other factors played a role in the collision.
