Butte skates past Havre Ice Hawks

The Havre Ice Hawks began their 2017-18 season almost a month ago, but after a few weeks away from competitive action on the ice, Havre was back at this last weekend for back-to-back games against Butte.

The Butte Blues, who traditionally have a strong team, swept the Ice Hawks in consecutive games by the scores of 9-2 and 12-0. The teams first played Friday night in Butte and right away in the first period, the Ice Hawks fell behind 3-0. Then, Butte added six goals in the second period and three more in the final stanza to get the 12-goal victory. Henry McDougall beat Havre for four goals in the win for Butte. Kinzee Peterson did manage 26 saves in defeat.

Saturday, the two teams met again and this time around, the game was more competitive, even though Havre still ended up losing 9-2. Butte scored three first-period goals for the second straight game to grab a 3-0 advantage after one, but in the second period, with Havre down 6-0, Ethan Roberts finally broke the scoreless streak with a goal that made it 6-1 in favor of Butte.

The Blues would score three more goals in the third period, pushing their lead to 9-1, before Roberts scored again. His two goals were assisted by August Eacker and Rhoda Peterson. Kinzee Peterson got the loss again in net, but did manage 37 saves in the loss.

The Ice Hawks (0-3-1) will be back in action this Friday when they will travel to Missoula (4-0).
