Big Sandy completes Triangle Connected Community Challenge

Press release

A $2,500 grant was recently awarded to the town of Big Sandy upon the completion of a Broadband Action Plan.

The grant was made possible by Triangle Communications with their Smart Rural Connected Community Challenge. The plan was put together by a stakeholder committee representing various sectors of the local economy.

The committee was appointed by the town council and worked closely with Anne Boothe, Triangle's economic development specialist, to develop a simple broadband action plan. This plan included priorities and strategies to positively impact economic development in the community through broadband technologies. For example, the plan will improve presentation and online training capabilities for officials and the general public.

A smart TV system will be installed in the council and conference rooms at Big Sandy's Town Hall. A separate digital sign will display a calendar of events and showcase businesses and tourism assets to the community and visitors alike. Both projects are expected to be completed in early 2018.
