Fair board looking for grandstand events

Seven months ahead of the 2018 Great Northern Fair, board members are still looking for acts to provide this year’s entertainment.

Board member Chelby Gooch, who sits on the board’s Events Committee, said today the committee is still looking at entertainment.

“We’ve talked to quite a few people, and we are just waiting to hear back from people,” she said.

Scott Doney, who sits on the Events Committee, said at the boards’ monthly meeting Tuesday night that, as far as he is concerned, he is open for ideas for Saturday and Sunday entertainment at the Fair.

The Jaycees Demolition Derby was the Sunday night entertainment this year.

Gooch said today the derby would probably be the same day this year.

Doney said at Tuesday’s meeting that he has to sit down with Clint Solomon to go over numbers and expenses from this year’s rodeo to plan for next year’s fair.

He said Solomon told him that he has facts and figures put together on such as expenses associated with putting on the rodeo.

Doney said he will get together with Solomon sometime after the holidays to go through the numbers, that will allow the board to plan for next year’s fair.

Fair Manager Dave Brewer, who was not at the meeting said in his fair manager report that was read by board Chair Paul McCann that Triangle Communications is working on a plan to get internet and phone service to the fairgrounds.

The plan, the report said, might not be ready by the end of the year, but he sees such a plan as a huge plus for the fair grounds, events and overall communications.

The board also approved updating its policy manual during the meeting.
