And then there were three

Forsyth's Nathan Weber set to join brothers Matt and Brandon in the Northern wrestling program

In Forsyth, wrestling and the name Weber go hand-in-hand. It's starting to become that way at Montana State University-Northern, too.

A pair of former Forsyth greats in Brandon and Matt Weber are currently juniors for the Lights of head coach Tyson Thivierge. But when they're seniors, they'll have another Weber in the Northern wrestling room.

On Thursday afternoon, Thivierge announced the signing of Forsyth senior Nathan Weber to an NAIA national letter of intent. He'll begin his MSU-N career next fall.

"Having a third (Weber) brother sign on with this program makes me feel as if we've done something right," Thivierge said. "It shows that the family trusts in the coaches and what we are selling here at MSU-N. It also makes me feel as if I've done right by Matt and Brandon and that they respect and trust that I have their best interest in mind. That is why I feel Nathan chose this program."

Like his older brothers, Nathan is already a Montana high school state champion. His title came as a freshman, when he won the 113-pound Class B-C state championship. That set him up to be like Matt, who was a four-time state champ for the Dogies. Yet, the Weber's never back down from a challenge, and the last two seasons, Nathan wrestled in the same weight class as Colstrip star Jackson Currier, who topped Weber in the 120-pound title match in 2016 and the 126-pound finale last season. Weber will be going for his second state championship in February. He's currently ranked No. 1 at 145 pounds.

"Nathan has all the potential in the world to succeed here at Northern, just look at what Matt and Brandon have done in their time here," Thivierge said. "He comes from a family dynasty and all they do is produce studs. Nathan will come into his own here and he will be a force."

And he'll get to do it with two of his bothers, at least for one season. And those two, Matt and Brandon, have already developed quite the legacy at Northern. Brandon won the 157-pound NAIA title in the spring, and Matt is already an All-American.

"As of late, our local Montana products have produced for this program and that is the foundation of what we are building on," Thivierge said. "This program turned the corner at the conclusion of last season and I've focused more on keeping Montana wrestlers in Montana. Signing Nathan is proof that we are building a roster of Montana student-athletes that will produce national champions and ultimately bring us back to national prominence. Forsyth has provided us with a huge amount of talent as of late, and we are very proud to have them. The Webers have been great for me, so with Brandon and Matt nearing their senior season, this comforts me to have another Weber horse in the stable. Three Webers ain't too shabby in my opinion."
