Havre fourth-grader wins Energy Share art contest

Havre Daily News staff

A Havre fourth-grader had a surprise visit this morning, a visit telling her she had won a statewide art contest and her art will be going to all donors to Energy Share Montana on thank-you letters next year.

Sunnyside Intermediate School fourth-grader Lyvia Little won first place in the contest, with Energy Share Board President Greg Jergeson, along with representatives from District 4 Human Resource Development Council in Havre, presenting Lyvia with a $75 check this morning.

Jergeson also presented her teacher, Jennifer Thompson, with a $75 Walmart gift card to use for classroom needs. A billboard with Lyvia's drawing will be put up later this month in the area.

Marian Tuck of Kalispell's West Valley School won second place in the contest and Valentina Sacca of West Glacier Elementary School won third. They will receive $50 and $25 respectively.  Their two teachers, Bethany Knudsen and Andina Markuson, will also receive Walmart gift cards.

The art contest is part of Energy Share's overall efforts to educate the public on the energy needs of people across the state. Donations from individuals and businesses, mostly from in-state, make it possible for Energy Share to help Montanans who face emergency, no-heat situations when they encounter temporary financial difficulties.

Over the last two heating seasons working with Havre's Human Resource Development Council, Energy Share helped over 140 families in Blaine, Hill and Liberty counties.

"All the fourth-graders who participated in the art contest send a big 'thank you' to those who donate to Energy Share to help keep their neighbors warm," an Energy Share release said. "The utility companies, propane industry and electric cooperatives also help support Energy Share including Hill County Electric Cooperative and NorthWestern Energy."
