Hello God. It's me, Mara

Cobwebs

Lord, who would think that cobwebs would remind us of You?  A friend shared that her hubby asked her where she’d put the long-handled duster. She gave him a quizzical look and told him, “back corner in the laundry room closet” then asked him why he needed it. He answered, “Well, dear heart, I need it to get rid of these cobwebs. We’ve got them all over — haven’t you noticed?”

Apparently she’d not noticed, but she followed his gaze up into the skylight in their bathroom and was astonished! Where did all that dusty gray stringy stuff come from that hung down forlornly? She apologized for not being a better housekeeper; he laughed as he cleaned the skylight and the bathroom ceiling. She wasn’t keen on finding any more cobwebs but later, when she went to check some paper work at her desk she glanced up to the ceiling. Oops! Sure enough, cobwebs.

Another friend shared that she’d needed help changing a ceiling florescent tube; her cousin stopped over. He pulled the cover off; she was shocked to see cobwebs! He laughed as he wiped everything clean, then replaced tube and cover; her hard job, done.

We aren’t in the habit of looking up! We forget to look up to You, Lord, as we get busy with our daily routine and simply forget to look up to You.  We get stuck in looking only at the circumstances that are happening around us, be they good or bad.

You remind us, Lord of who You are and that You are with us in the simplest bumps along the road that are pitiful and could remind us of those neglected cobwebs that none of us like. You are the Great Cobweb Cleaner as we read Psalm 123:1; “To you I lift up my eyes, O You who are enthroned in the heavens.” We need to look up to you, Lord!

Love Mara
