Bread Contest set during Seed Show

Press release

Mark your calendar — the Montana Seed Show will be held March 8, 9 and 10 at Harlem High School with many events and exhibits to interest attendees.

One of these is the Bread Contest. The categories for both youth — high school seniors and younger — and adult are regular white bread, 100 percent whole wheat bread, machine white bread and machine 50 percent combination whole wheat bread.

All four categories will offer monetary prizes for youth and adults, with plaques in each category for the adults and a plaque to the over-all winner. The first-place adult winners in each category are not eligible to enter that category for three years; however, they may enter the other categories. Youth winners are eligible to enter each year. Breads may be entered Friday, March 9, between 8 and 9:30 a.m. in Harlem High School’s big gym.

Regular white bread and 100 percent whole wheat bread should be baked in standard-size loaf pans, and all entries should be enclosed in a large zip-lock bag or in a large plastic bag with a twist tie. Recipes, with directions, — enclosed in a small plastic bag — are to be included with entries. Butter cannot be used on top of the entry.

For further information consult the Seed Show book or call Karolee Cronk, 353-2874, bread show chairman.
