Obituary - Anna Lee (Golterman) Dwyer

Well-known Western artist Anna Lee (Golterman) Dwyer, 90, passed away Thursday evening, Feb. 1, at her home on Swan Lake.

Anna was born in Plentywood, Montana, Dec. 29, 1927, to Joseph and Mary Golterman and raised on the family farm. Her lifelong love of art began as a young child.

In June of 1949, Anna married Donald William "Bill" Dwyer. They shared 45 years together, before Bill passed away in 1994. They were active community and parish members in Great Falls, Montana, where they raised their four children. In 1979, a job transfer took them to Connecticut, where they resided until 1991, before retiring to the waterfront Montana home they

had built on Swan Lake.

Anna and Bill loved to be involved in their church and community. Anna particularly enjoyed spending time with couples in the 18-30 Club, many of whom became lifelong friends.

Throughout her life, Anna was an avid artist and renowned for her western art. She worked with everything from watercolor to bronze and was particularly talented with painting and sculpture.

She attended, and exhibited at, many art shows, including the C.M. Russell Auction where she frequently participated in the quick-draw show and auction. She often exercised her design skills and artistic talent by creating play sets for the Bigfork Community Players. Anna believed strongly in the importance of community involvement. Anna exemplified this belief, through her many roles in the community. An active member of the Swan Lake Chamber and Community Club, from which she received the Outstanding Citizen Award, Anna was always involved in the annual Swan Lake Huckleberry Festival. She was also highly active elsewhere in the community, hosting art classes and participating in numerous community events.

Anna is survived by her four children, Tim (Dottie) Dwyer, Dave Dwyer, Dan (Cathy) Dwyer, and Julie (Lew) Ross; sister Marietta (Bob) Riese; sister-in-law Barbara Golterman; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Golterman, and siblings Ada Nash and Paul Golterman.

Memorials received will be sent to the Bigfork Community Players or Ferndale QRU (Quick Response Unit). A viewing will be held at 6:30 p.m., and a Rosary at

7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 8, at Saint John Paul II Catholic Church in Bigfork, Montana. A memorial Mass will be held at Saint John Paul II Catholic Church in Bigfork Friday, Feb. 9, at 11 a.m., with a luncheon afterward. Anna will be buried in the Lone Pine Cemetery in Bigfork, Montana.
