Edwards' 'Bruce' featured artwork at Northern's Office of Diversity

This month, the guest artist of the Montana State University-Northern Office of Diversity Awareness and Multicultural Programs is Roberta Edwards, member of the Havre Art Association and student enrolled at the oil painting class at Northern.

Edwards said she decided to enroll at Northern after "exploring the paint and sip scene in Great Falls and Billings."

She presents her piece "Bruce" (16" x 20" oil).

She added, "I am thankful to have found the most relaxing and fulfilling hobby I have ever had. I am drawn to color and light and love to mix things up by changing the subject matter to create my own reality. Painting blue cats, purple trees, turquoise people, and green skies makes me happy. Successful landscapes elude me, but I hope to improve in that area. I enjoy painting people's and creature's faces. Maybe someday I will learn how to paint their bodies"

This creation has a personal connection with her expressed in a parallel way, she said.

"I am older and married and I have been referred to as a nontraditional student.  I have no children, which for this part of the world is unusual.  I live in a remote area and drive two hours roundtrip to attend class. Although I share many similarities with most people here at school, my life is very different from anyone I have met here. 'Bruce' represents the intrinsic beauty of all humans, and also references the distress of being different."
