Former Buttreys grocery store building collapses in Harlem

A vacant building in Harlem that once housed the Buttreys Grocery Store and briefly Albertsons collapsed over the weekend, the Harlem Volunteer Fire Department chief said this morning.

Chief Robert Scheffelmaer said the building, which is across the street from the building now housing Albertsons, likely collapsed due to snow that accumulated over the roof.

“Nobody really knows,” he added. “Nobody really was around when it happened.”
