Montana Students Offered College Scholarships

Press release

Kailee Horn of Harlem High School is one of 95 seniors representing 23 Montana high schools notified by Montana GEAR UP that they had earned the Montana TRIO Achievement Grant.

Some students who received the award did not consent to have their names released and were not identified.

The Montana TRIO Achievement Grant is a one-time award of $1,500. The grant may be used to cover the student’s cost of attendance at any U.S. accredited college or university that awards an associate’s degree or higher.

In order to earn the Montana TRIO Achievement Grant students must be Pell Grant eligible and complete the Montana University System College Prep Curriculum while maintaining at least a 2.0 GPA. Additionally, students must be enrolled in a TRIO Upward Bound or TRIO Talent Search Program. The names of the students and the high schools they represent can be found at http://mus.edu/gearup/files/Scholarships/Award%20Winners.pdf/.

GEAR UP, a federal grant program designed to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students who attend and succeed in college, is administered through Montana’s Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education.  The Montana GEAR UP program serves more than 4,000 students, the majority of whom attend schools located on or near one of the state’s American Indian reservations.
