Sweetgrass powwow to commemorate missing and murdered women

Montana State University-Northern’s Sweetgrass Society will kickoff the powwow season this weekend with their 42nd annual powwow in the campus Armory Gymnasium.

The first grand entry will be 7 p.m. Friday, Sweetgrass Society President Amy Murdock said. Subsequent grand entries are Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Missing and murdered indigenous women will be honored Friday night with an honor song and dance, Murdock said. People are encouraged to wear red to show solidarity with the victims.

“We want women of all ages to come and dance and wear their red dresses,” she said.
