Havre High's Wilkie shines on the big stage

It's been nearly two months since Havre High junior Martin Wilkie captured his third straight Class A state championship on the wrestling mat. But wrestling season has kept on going for the Blue Pony star.

This past week, Wilkie was in Virginia Beach, Virginia, taking part in the prestigious NHSCA Nationals. Wilkie was one of seven Montana wrestlers to earn All-American honors at the tournament.

Wilkie, who will be gunning for his fourth straight state title next winter, placed an outstanding third at 132 pounds in the junior class division.

He won his first five matches starting with a 13-2 decision, a 9-0 decision, a pin, along with an 8-7 win in his fourth round match.

In the quarterfinals, Wilkie earned a 5-4 decision, before suffering his only loss of the tournament in the semifinals, with a 1-0 defeat. Wilkie then came back through the consolation bracket to place third with a 9-2 win in the match in the third-place match.
