Easter egg activities still planned over weekend

Winter weather cancels Eagles-Jaycee hunt, party at Eagles Club still on

One hunt has been canceled and others have been - and still may be - adjusted to fit the winter weather, but Easter egg hunts still are on for this weekend.

The Havre Jaycees announced the joint hunt it holds with the Havre Eagles Club scheduled for Saturday is canceled, but the party planned afterward at the club still is on starting at 2 Saturday afternoon.

"The Havre Jaycees will be handing out eggs and there will be prizes awarded for certain eggs," the service organization said in a relesae. "So make sure to come join in the fun Saturday. Happy Easter from the Havre Jaycees."

The Havre Optimist Club is still holding its Easter Egg Hunt, with people dying some 2,500 eggs Thursday in preparation.

Optimist Lisa Ophus said it still is planned at Optimist Park at 1p.m., but if too much snow prevents that, the hunt will be at the south parking lot at Montana State University-Northern at 1:15 p.m. instead. A sign or person will tell people where the hunt will end up, she said.

The hunt will be divided into three age groups, 0-3, 4-6 and 7-9, with prizes awarded in each group.

Timber Creek Village also is holding an Easter egg hunt, starting Saturday at 2 p.m. Everyone of all ages are welcome, Timber Creek nursing assistant Teresa Jiron said.

Ila McClenahan, pastoral care and activities director at Northern Montana Care Center, said a hunt also will be held there Saturday but it is only for children and grandchildren of residents and employees of the care center, with both real and plastic eggs hidden by the residents.

And the Havre High School Key Club announced it is adjusting its March of Dimes Easter egg hunt, moving it from the high school practice fields into the gymnasium and halls of the high school. People need to use the west parking lot doors by the gymnasium and auditorium to enter the event, which starts Saturday at 1 p.m.

Free-will donations will be collected and given to the March of Dimes.

The Key Club hunt will use color-coordinated eggs and will be divided into three age groups, 0-3, 4-7 and 8 and older.

The forecast is not the best for an outdoor Easter egg hunt. The forecast predicts a high of 19 and a low of 5 Saturday, with no precipitation in the forecast. Sunday's forecast calls for a high of 31 and a low of 13 with a 40 percent chance of snow flurries in the afternoon.
