Families celebrate Grandparent's Day at North Star Elementary

Dancing to a song called "Bunny Hop," first-graders from North Star Elementary School in Gildford perform for their grandparents Thursday morning. Along with performing, students also painted and read with their grandparents during Grandparent's Day at the school. The event was put on by the school's first-grade teacher Jan Donoven and had grandparents traveling from as far as Phoenix, Arizona, to attend.

North Star Elementary School continued a decades-old Hi-Line tradition Thursday with its annual Grandparent's Day.

The event, hosted by Jan Donoven's first-grade class with the help of Dani Jo Kline, saw 45 grandparents spend the morning with their grandchildren as the students performed songs and skits, read to and painted with their grandparents.

"I've been teaching 33 years and have been hosting a grandparent's day for as long as I remember," Donoven said. "It is so rewarding to see the kids spending a day like this with their grandparents. It was a special memo...
