KNMC's second Tribute concert set for Saturday

Havre's college radio station is, for the second year, holding a concert of local bands paying tribute to famous groups.

KNMC's Tribute concert is set for Saturday, running from 2 to 8 p.m. in the amphitheater behind Pershing Hall on Montanan State University-Northern's campus.

Dave Martens of KNMC said in case of bad weather, the event will move into the Armory Gymnasium at the university.

The student senate at Northern moved its bow-tie ball, held last year during graduation week, to this same weekend starting at 7 p.m., so the organizers have set it to end early - "promptly at 8 p.m." - to allow people to go to that event, a fundraiser for doing work on Donaldson Hall at Northern.

Martens said the radio station holds the concert "as our way of saying thanks to all of the hard-working students, faculty and employees of MSU-Northern."

"Last year, local musicians signed up in droves and created "tribute" bands to dress up and perform the music of Creedence Clearwater Revivial, Led Zeppelin, Carol King, Tom Petty, Black Sabbath, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Dwight Yoakam and 3 Doors Down," he added.

This year's lineup features six bands paying tribute to Iron Maiden, performed by Brian Maiden; Judas Priest, performed by Judas Priestess; Alice in Chains, performed by Junkhead; David Bowie, performed by Bowies II Men; Neil Young, performed by MacRazy Horse, and The Rolling Stones, performed by Mick Jagged and the Rolling Boulders.

The event will include a cash bar provided by Vic's Catering and food by Streatery.

People going to the show are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to sit on, Martens added.

The event also kicks off KNMC's summer concert ticket giveaway, with the station giving away a pair of tickets to the Red Ants Pants Music Festival in White Sulphur Springs. That show, which runs July 26-29, is headlined this year by Dwight Yoakam and Pam Tillis and Lorrie Morgan on their Grits and Glamour tour.
