Marcee Murphy, 17, a junior at Havre High School, shows Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney a project Monday that she and other students worked on during the year. Cooney was visiting the high school students after they won the Saving Money And Resources Today, or SMART, Recycling Challenge. Alone with being one of 13 schools to win the statewide challenge, Havre High was also presented with $1,000. This is the first time that the high school has won the challenge since it first entered the program three years ago.
Montana's lieutenant governor was at Havre High School Monday to reward a class for its work in environmentalism.
Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney presented a $1,000 check to juniors and seniors in an environmental science class of Havre High teacher Rebecca Reno.
The class was one of 13 in the state to receive a grant from the SMART - Saving Money and Resources Today - Schools Challenge.
Reno's class was one of four in the state given the award in the SMART Recycling Challenge category, now in its fourth year.
