Buffington in Liberty County clerk and recorder race

After three years of working for Liberty County, first as a payroll specialist and later as a deputy clerk and recorder, Davin Buffington is challenging the current Liberty County clerk and recorder in the Republican primary.

Buffington is running against incumbent Angel Colbry in the June 5 Republican primary.

No Democrat filed to run for the seat, so the winner of the primary will win the general election.

Buffington said she decided to run for clerk and recorder because she believes that she can be the professional and positive change the county needs.

Buffington said she has good management skills that will be an asset as clerk and recorder. In addition to her current job as deputy clerk and recorder, Buffington said her time with an accounting firm has provided her with administrative skills and an ability to effectively work with the public.

Steps can be taken to make the office run more efficiently, she said.

Buffington said that in the office now she performs payroll duties, while another employee handles claims and does some of the recording duties.

She said the office would work better if there was more cross-training, where employees are trained to perform all of the office's functions rather than just some of them.

It is important, she said, that employees are versed in all of the office's functions so they can more effectively serve the public.
