Local Golf Report: Area golfers battling at state

From Tee to Green

Last month the Montana State University-Northern golf teams completed their 2018 postseason. Now, it’s the high school golfer’s turn to take center stage.

Monday and today, area Class B and C golfers are playing in the 2018 Class B and C state tournaments, with the B event held in Billings and the C tournament taking place at Fairmont Hot Springs.

The Chinook girls earned a trophy at last year’s state tourney, and Carrie Hofer, Hailey Bell, Ashley MacLeod and Alyssa Gruszie are trying to do the same again this week. The Sugarbeeters are also well represented on the boys side, with Tamer Jamieson, Jacob Huckabee and Branden Paulson in the field. Fort Benton, Rocky Boy and Harlem golfers are also playing at state this week, and we’ll have complete coverage in next week’s From Tee to Green.

Meanwhile, league golf is now in full swing, and the weather has been cooperating of late.

Last Tuesday, in men’s league at Prairie Farms Golf Course, Jeremy Jensen fired an even-par 36 to earn low-gross honors, while Dan Wagner, Dave Herman, Tom Reynolds, Lowell Swenson and Craig Tilleman shared low net, with a 33.5. High team went to Tilleman Motors and Vic’s, each earning 24.5 points. The Tilleman team was composed of Craig Tilleman, Larry Tilleman, Jacob Lorang and Brent Reber, while Vic’s was made up of Lowell Swenson, Dustin Haas, Tom Haas and Kerry Ward.

Wednesday night, BPCU was high team with 22.5 points. Jeremy Jensen, Jeff Jensen, Al Vukasin and Lowell Swenson made up the squad. Kyle Miller was low gross with a one-under 35, while Ric Floren was low net with a 29.5.

Prairie Farms Ladies League started last Thursday, but after five holes, the rain started falling and the round wasn’t finished. The ladies will pick it up again this week.

At Beaver Creek Golf Course last Thursday night, men's league did make it through their round. Roman Surber fired a 36 for low gross, while Ian Windy Boy was low net with a 28.
