Rocky Boy vets center receives grant

The Rocky Boy Veterans Center has announced is has received a grant to help it provide support to local veterans.

The Disabled Veterans National Foundation awarded $25,000 to the center, which will fund its Veterans Support Services program, the center said in a press release.

The program helps veterans to access all VA benefits they have earned; assists service members transitioning into civilian life, and provides assistance to unemployed veterans to become self-sufficient by transitioning them into the workforce.

The Veterans Support Services program provides direct assistance to veterans needing a little extra support in maintaining a quality life for themselves and their families, the release said.

“Our goals are to ensure Rocky Boy veterans and American Indian veterans receive the care and benefits they have earned through their service to this country in order to build a stable quality of life for themselves and their families, ultimately further advancing our Montana communities,” Rocky Boy Veterans Center Executive Director Chauncey Parker said in the release.

“DVNF is proud to support Rocky Boy Center as they assist veterans in accessing all the VA benefits they are entitled to as well as providing support for transitioning and at-risk veterans,” said the DVNF CEO, retired U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Joseph VanFonda. “We would like to congratulate and thank them for their commitment to serving the men and women who served in defense of our country.”

Disabled Veterans National Foundation exists to provide critically needed support to disabled and at-risk veterans who leave the military wounded — physically or psychologically — after defending U.S. Citizens’ safety and freedom.

• Providing supplemental assistance to homeless and low-income veterans through the Health & Comfort program and various empowerment resources.

About the Rocky Boy Veterans Center:

The Rocky Boy Veterans Center’s mission is to provide services and assistance in all manners pertaining to the improvement of the quality of life for Veterans living on Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation, in the surrounding region and for American Indian Military Service Members. These services include assisting veterans with enrolling in the VA and applying for VA benefits. Additionally, the RBVC meets the needs of separating service members during their period of transition into civilian life by offering job-search assistance, financial literacy and related services. The RBVC also assists unemployed veterans transition into the workforce. Under this focus the program assists veterans with job placement, resume building, on the job training, financial literacy and enrollment in job specific courses. The RBVC acts as the liaison between veterans and VA, veterans service officers and other service providers.
