Local Golf Report: Tourney season gets underway

From Tee to Green

June is coming, and that means the local golf season is in full swing. And that includes the tournament schedule.

This Saturday marks the true beginning of tournament season, with big events at both Prairie Farms Golf Course, and Beaver Creek Golf Course. At Prairie Farms, the annual Golfing For a Cure Tournament will be held. The event is a cancer awareness fundraiser and has become one of the most popular and special events on the local golf calendar. Meanwhile, at BCGC this weekend, the annual Havre Wrestling Club Scramble will take place. That tourney has also been a staple of the local golf scene for years and figures to be a great one again this season. We hope to have results from both tournaments in next week’s From Tee to Green.

This week’s column is a day late due to Memorial Day weekend, and I’d like to take an opportunity to thank all of you who have served, currently serve, or will same in the future. I know many of you are local golfers as well, and your service and sacrifice is greatly appreciated.

Last week’s league results included Tire Rama earning high-team honors in Tuesday night men’s league at Prairie Farms. The team, composed of Lunar and C.J. Evans, Jeff Jensen and Buzz Pizzini, scored 24.5 points. Lunar was low gross with a 37, while Christian Oberquell was low net with a 28.

Last Wednesday night saw Valley Furniture score 24 points for high team. The squad was made up of Hoover Peterson, Brent Reber, Cal Wirtzberger and Mike Evans. Jeremy Jensen was low gross with a 37, while Barry Zanto was low net with a 28.

In men’s league last Thursday at BCGC, the Beaver Creek Golf Course team composed of Matt Corcoran, Rob Pitkanen, Craig Miller and Justin French took high team with a score of 27.5. Kyle Miller was low gross with a 1-under 35 and Chris Matson was low net with a 29.
