Fire destroys empty trailer in Fairview Terrace

The Havre Fire Department was able to contain quickly a fire in a vacant trailer house in the Fairview Terrace Trailer Court Wednesday, although the trailer was destroyed.

The fire on the 1800 Block of Second Street was reported Wednesday at 2:19 p.m. and firefighters responded to the address at 2:21 p.m.

Two engines, one ambulance and a command vehicle along with 12 firefighters responded, Fire Chief Mel Paulson said.

"It was a pretty good showing," he added.

Paulson said the owner of the trailer was doing some work in preparation for moving it. While the owner was cutting or welding on the trailer, sparks ignited insulation, starting a fire that spread to the rest of the trailer. Although no one was injured, the fire caused extensive damage to the trailer.

The firefighters contained the fire to the vacant trailer except for a small grass fire that burned about 20 square feet.

The fire, which was contained within 15 minutes of response, started about five minutes before their arrival time, Paulson said.

He added that this is a best-case scenario for the situation, with no personal property damage, no injuries and the fire being contained within a timely manner.

"It was a really good response," Paulson said.
