Hello, God. It's me, Mara

Father’s Day

You know, Lord, with Father’s Day coming up, we’ll just share a bit from Lea Palmer. She wrote: “Home is a little corner of the earth that a man can call his own. It is a plot of land, gently touched by the sun, where one can dream of yesterday or plan for tomorrow. A home, like a mansion, is not built in a day; it embraces years of sharing never-ending problems, joys, sorrows, love. In the sanctity of home, one can sense the everlasting grace of God.”

Gleaned from “Father of Daughters” by Lois Mae Cuhell — she wrote: “He skillfully fits a tiny pair of tights on a pair of chubby, stubby, but definitely feminine legs. He embraces a sort of little girls’ lib, encouraging his daughters in any pursuit, be it ‘male’ or ‘female.’ He squats to their level and listens to their earnest and noisy recital of the day’s events. He may have wished for sons but you may see him sitting down to a pretend meal served lovingly on miniature dishes.

“Father’s of daughters mend a dolly’s broken arm, reads ‘Cinderella,’ helps his little girls into frilly nightgowns. He’s the undisputed king of their castle and their hearts. His big hands fasten tiny buttons; smaller scissors to cut paper dolls, places his big hands over little ones, teaching them to pray.

“Father’s of daughters may get teased about his harem but he loves it that his family of females are all in love with him! Father’s of daughters swell with pride when his 4-year-old says, ‘Daddies love their little girls very much!’”

This long-ago blurb still holds true today. Thanks for the reminder for rearing children, Lord, found in Ephesians 6:4 “Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”

Love, Mara
