Big names win big at Bear Paw Roundup

The Hi-Line rodeo season got off to a hot start this weekend in Chinook.

At the Blaine County Fair Friday and Saturday, the 18th annual Bear Roundup PRCA Rodeo was held and, as always, the event was a huge hit.

Of course, the big hit was the bull riding, which was won by one of the top bull riders in Montana, Parker Breding. Breding won with an 84.5 point ride Brookman Rodeo's #51. There were only three qualified rides on the bulls.

Breding wasn't the only top hand at the Chinook rodeo either. Former NFR finalist Jesse Kruse scored 76 points on Crazy Girl to win the saddle bronc riding, while Heath Ford scored 80 points on Famous Dex to win the bareback riding.

Other winners in Chinook include Newt Novich in steer wrestling, Jason Carlson and Zachary Schweigert in team roping, Michael Perry in tie down roping and Shelby Lyn Gill in barrel racing. MSU-Northern's Tara Stimpson, who competed earlier this summer at the college National Finals Rodeo, placed fourth in the barrels, as well.

The localrodeo circuit will next move to Havre with the 2018 Great Northern Ram Rodeo July 19.
