Havre's Peterson selected to play in softball all-star game

It won't be long now, and Havre High senior Kinzee Peterson will turn her attention to the 2018 golf season. And after that, it will be hockey time.

But the three-sport Blue Pony standout has a little more softball to play this summer.

Peterson, an All-Conference and All-State catcher for the Blue Pony girls fast pitch softball teams, has been named to Montana's only high school All-Star softball tournament, the annual Veterans Memorial Softball Classic, which takes place in Belgrade.

The rosters for the fifth annual classic were announced Monday, where Peterson was named to the Harold Haugland Army Team. She'll play alongside Jacy Pointer of Shepherd, Erin Elgas of Belgrade, Madi Moore of CMR, Kassidy Kinzie of Plains/Hot Springs, Riley Kehr of Columbia Falls, Cayley Bushong of Great Falls, Sydnie Peterson of Anaconda, Morgan Snow of Frenchtown, Caitlin Dillon of Hamilton and Nicky Damjanovich of Billings Central. Dean Thompson of Libby will be the coach of the Army Team.

In all, there are five teams in the annual classic, each named after a branch of the Armed Services. This year, Eric Vincent of Great Falls Central will be the coach of the Robert Holton Air Force Team, Mike Coleman of GFH will coach the Jerry Phillips Coast Guard Team and Lori Goodel of Shepherd will head the Jay Vee Fried Navy Team, and Troy Waters of Loyola will lead the Donald Ruhl Marines Team.

The 5th Annual Veterans Memorial Softball Classic will be held Aug. 3-4 with all of the games in Belgrade.
