Local Golf Report: Diesel Tech Scramble up next at BCGC

From Tee to Green

Whether it’s the Open Championship at Carnoustie or right here at home, tournament golf will be the order of the day this week.

At Beaver Creek Golf Course, the annual MSU-Northern Diesel Technology Scramble will be held Saturday. The tournament is a four-person scramble and has quickly become a big hit on the local tourney circuit.

Meanwhile, across the pond the Open Championship is being contested this week at Carnoustie, which, many pros are claiming, will be even tougher than last month’s U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills. And looking at the Carnoustie Course, it got me thinking about my favorite links courses I’ve played. Although Montana doesn’t have true links golf, which is actually ocean side sand dunes golf, the front nine at Northern Pines is pretty close to links golf, as is much of the Ranch Club in Missoula. In Medicine Hat, Desert Blume is a great track to at least get a feel of what links golf is like, and I have had the pleasure of playing Royal Links in Las Vegas, which is a course that mimics 18 different holes in the British Open Rota.

Back on the home front, league golf is entering its third month, and the stretch run is here. At Prairie Farms Golf Course, last Tuesday night’s action was stormed out, while on Wednesday night, Michelob Light earned high-team honors with 22.5 points. The team was made up of Tom and Scott Adams, Jim Heberly and Tommy Baker III. Jeremy Jensen shot a 2-under par 34 for low gross, while Barry Zanto was low net with a 27.5.

Last Thursday night in Ladies League, Independence Bank took high team with 22 points. Terry Lilletvedt, Maxine Munson, Pam Veis, and Teresa Brown composed the squad. Sarah Spangler was low gross with a 40, while Brandy Lambourne was low net with a 26.5.

And at men’s league at BCGC last Thursday, Grip it n Sip It took high-year honors with 28.5 points. The team was made up of Frank Henry, Neal Rosette Jr., Adam Demontiney and Cody Matfeldt. Roman Surber was low gross with an even-par 36, and Alex Chvilicek was low net with a 30.

And one last thing, happy fair week.
