Fake $100 bill passed in Hill County

Repeat of play money passed in 2017

Hill County Sheriff Jamie Ross said this morning that two people have been cited for passing a fake $100 bill

The bill was taken as cash at Walmart.

At 7:47 a.m. Tuesday, after it was discovered, a Walmart employee reported it to the sheriff’s office, Ross said.

He said the bill was clearly marked as not being real money, with it only being for motion picture use written on it.

A deputy sheriff responded to the call and reviewed video footage of the previous day, Ross.

The footage revealed two men had passed the counterfeit bill and later that day the sheriff’s office interviewed Paul Red Star, 52, from Wolf Point, and Clair Four Star, 36, from Helena. They were later cited for misdemeanor forgery by passing counterfeit bills.

Ross said that there have not been any further reports of counterfeit bills, but people should still inspect the bills they are accepting or using.

“I encourage businesses and people, in general, to closely inspect any money they take,” Ross said.

The fake bill being passed is a repeat of an incident last year. After a Havre resident purchased motion picture prop money just for playing around with, some other people got a hold of some of the money and used it in Havre at multiple businesses over several days.
