Obituary - George Bennett Evans

George Evans, 74, passed away of natural causes at the Community Medical Center in Missoula, Montana, surrounded by his wife and children on July 15th, 2018.

He was born in Springfield, Minnesota, on April 3rd, 1944, to George and Gertrude Evans. He married his wife of 50 years, Cecilia, on February 18th, 1967. Soon after he was released from military service in 1971, he  followed his brothers to Havre, MT.

George and Cecilia made their home in Havre, where they raised their children. George was a salesman serving much of the Hi-Line area and took great pride in his customer service. His life in Havre was full. Most weekends during the fall and winter were spent in the foothills of the Bear Paw Mountains hunting while spring and summer gave way to fishing and many, many nights and weekends at the Sixth Avenue softball field, where he answered most often to, "Uncle Georgie."

Throughout his life, George was a master storyteller and had a joke for every occasion. He valued friendships and people above all else. Some of his fondest memories and best stories were of the times he spent with David Pelzel, his life-long friend. In his final years he enjoyed spending time with his wife, kids and grandkids. He will be remembered for his kindness, humor and spirit.

George was preceded in death by his son Shane Evans, parents, George and Gertrude (Olsen) Evans; his brothers Lewis, Kenneth, Russell, Dave and John and his sisters-in-law Gail (Chuck) Evans, and Patty (Rick) Evans.

He is survived by his wife, Cecilia Evans; his brothers Bob (Cheryl), Chuck and Rick (Deb); sisters-in-law, Dixie (Dave), Judy(Ken), Kay (Russ), and Sandy (John); children, George Evans, Beth (Jon) Buchanan, Carrie (Ryan) Shepherd, Rachael (T.C.) Antonsen and Elizabeth (Dasan) Torgerson; grandchildren, Madalyn, Jenna, Evan, Sarah, Ajanae, Tiana, Bryanna, Shane, Olivia, Tim, Alexandrea, Anthony, Tey, Marley and Ruby; great-grandchild Daxton; and his many "favorite" nieces and nephews.

A service will be held in his memory at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Havre on Saturday, July 21st, at 1 p.m. followed by a reception at the parish hall. Please join us in celebrating our dad's life.

Condolences can be sent C/O Cecilia Evans, 7 Carriage Way, Missoula MT 59803.
