Elks, VFW hold barbecue for vets, first responders

Press release

Havre Elks Lodge No. 1201 and the VFW Post 497 are hosting the Hi-Line Veterans/First Responders Family BBQ Saturday.

Veterans, First Responders and their families are invited to the barbecue in their honor from noon to 3 p.m. at the pavilion at Bear Paw Lake in the Bear Paw Mountains.

This inaugural picnic is intended to honor veterans and first responders, with a family picnic featuring games, fishing and fun.

“The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks has been supporting veterans since the order started, 150 years ago in 1868,” Havre Elks Lodge No. 1201 secretary and event co-chairwoman Brandy Kurtz said. “Havre Lodge No. 1201 is continuing our support of veterans and first responders through this picnic as it’s a way to give back to those who serve and have served our community and country every day.”

VFW Post 497 ensures that veterans are respected for their service, always receive their earned entitlements, and are recognized for the sacrifices they and their loved ones have made on behalf of this great country. VFW post 497 is extremely honored to partner with the Elks on this inaugural event.

Havre Elks Lodge No. 1201 has applied for a Freedom Grant through the Elks National Foundation to assist in covering the cost of the event.

“Pepsi has been a fantastic corporate partner for this event by donating banners, posters, and all the drinks,” Kurtz said. “We look forward to all veterans, first responders and their families joining us for a wonderful day on Saturday, Aug. 11th, from noon until 3 p.m. at the second lake Pavilion in Beaver Creek Park.”
