Obituary - Elmer P. Doney

Elmer P. Doney, 96, passed away peacefully at his home July 31, 2018.

Elmer was born Jan. 23, 1922, in Landusky, Montana, to Pete Doney and Lydia Lavenger. He had five brothers and five sisters.

During his lifetime, Elmer worked as a rancher, a miner and retired as a foreman from Lydig Construction.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army June 29, 1942, during World War II. He was honorably discharged March 3, 1946. He received the American Theatre Medal and a Victory Medal.

He had a great love of the outdoors; animals, especially horses and his little pug, Spike; but, most of all, for his wife and family. He had 14 children, 42 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

He is surviveed by his brother Leonard Doney; sisters Edna Grace Teske and Maxine Latray; sons Elmer James, Edwin "Elvis" Dale, Wade Allen, Rodney Dean and Gaylord Vern; daughters Patricia Lee, Roberta Faye Wandler, Marilyn France, Janice Lynn Johnson and Edna Mae Hatten.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Ernestine Pearl "Tiny" Azure-Doney,; four brothers, Charlie Lavenger, Alex Doney (Jiggs), Andy Doney and Gene Doney; sisters Grace Tester, Ruby Latray and Alice Pewonka; sons Peter David, Stuart Dennis and Willard Merle; daughter Deanna; grandson "Chuck" Wandler; granddaughters Tammy Christine Lake and Andrea Dawn Doney, and great-great-grandson Vaiden Cameron Doney.

Cremation services were respectfully and gracefully handled by Neptune Society of Spokane.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Chinook, Montana, on Aug. 24, 2018 at 10 a.m. with Father Micheal officiating. Burial service will follow Mass at Kuper Memorial Cemetery.

On behalf of the entire Doney family, we want to send out a special thank you to Hospice of Spokane for helping us fulfill his only wish with dignity and respect. We also want to thank all of his care providers, especially Katie Bunch, for providing him with such great care and for loving him so much.
