Outdoors: IT'S BACK: Smoke, fires return to Montana

A view of Havre from the Bear Paw Mountains on Wednesday shows a heavy haze of wildfire smoke blanketing the city. After a relatively quiet start to the 2018 fire season, things have began to ramp in the last few weeks.

Here we go again.

For the first part of the summer, it looked as though Montana was going to catch a break when it came to wildfires. In the last week, though, that hope has faded.

While several fires were already burning, mostly in extreme northwest and in southwestern Montana, fires again caught everyone's attention Sunday when the Howe Ridge Fire inside Glacier National Park exploded, and in its wake, destroyed most of historic Kelly's Camp.
