Local Golf Report: Miller wins BCGC club championship

From Tee to Green

With football season about to begin, the local golf season is no doubt starting to wind down.

And one big indicator of that was last Sunday’s Beaver Creek Golf Course Club Championship. For the second straight year, Kyle Miller won the BCGC Men’s Club Championship. Miller fired a 2-under par 70 Sunday to win the tournament. Kelsie Briese also repeated as the Women’s Club Champion. Congrats guys.

The Men’s Club Championship at Prairie Farms Golf Course will be held this Sunday. You can sign up at the Pro Shop. The tournament starts at 9:30 a.m.

Playoffs for men’s and women’s leagues are also in full swing. BCGC will hold its semifinals this Thursday, while the ladies held their semifinals at Prairie Farms last Thursday. Double R defeated Havre Heating & AC in one semifinal and Northern Montana Hospital beat Patrick Construction in the other. Double R and NMH will meet for the championship Thursday night.

Tonight also marks the start of the men’s league playoffs at Prairie Farms. The regular season ended last week. Patrick Construction earning high-team honors Tuesday night and Havre Ford did so Wednesday. Last Tuesday saw Lunar Evans fire a sensational 35 for low gross, while Gerry Veis was low net with a 28. Last Wednesday, Dr. Kevin Harada shot an even 36 for low gross, while Barry Zanto was low net with a 29. Patrick Construction finished on top of the Tuesday night standings, while Valley Furniture won the second half Wednesday night.

The first round of the playoffs is tonight with Tire Rama battling Stockman Bank, Rock Solid facing off against DA Davidson, BA Ranch will take on Hub Insurance and Tilleman Motors will face Valley Furniture. On the other side of the bracket, Master Sports faces Hole 19, Korb Construction battles Vic’s Place, Michelob Light will take on Wagner Plumbing and BPCU takes on Patrick Construction.

I’d also like to congratulate Judy Adams for getting her second career hole-in-one recently. Adams recorded an ace at Eagle Falls Golf Course in Great Falls. The shot was witnessed by her husband, Dr. Tom Adams. Way to go, Judy.

And finally, the Havre High golf teams were back in action Monday, playing the Belgrade Invitational in Bozeman. At Riverside Country Club, the Havre boys had another strong day, led by sophomore Caleb Chambliss, who fired a career-best 78 to take first place. Overall Havre was fourth with a team total of 361. Eli Cloninger shot a 92, followed by Josh Warp at 95, Tyrel Kjersem at 96 and Nolan Lotton at 101.

On the girls side, senior Teagan Fee continued her strong play with a round of 99 for fifth place. The Havre girls also got a 104 from Kinzee Peterson, while Sophie Kirkpatrick shot 111 and Jocelyn Staples shot 112.

The Ponies will be back on the course at next Monday's Fergus Invitational in Lewistown.
