Friday's Prep Football: Ponies dominate Hardin 24-0

If there was any doubt that Reese Bulkley could play quarterback for the Havre High football team, the junior signal caller took all of one quarter to erase it.

Bulkley, in his first career start at quarterback for the Blue Ponies, tossed two first-quarter touchdown passes to Ethan Roberts and also ran for another score in the second quarter as Havre snapped a 12-game losing streak with a 24-0 shutout win over Hardin Friday night at Blue Pony Stadium.

On his second career pass attempt, Bulkley found Roberts streaking down the sideline for 46 yards and a touchdown that put Havre in front 7-0. Later in the opening stanza with Havre up 10-0, the two connected again, this time on a 43-yard strike that gave HHS a 17-0 lead after one. Bulkley added another touchdown on a five-yard run in the second quarter and Hardin, which managed just a few first downs all game, was stymied by a Pony defense that got three sacks and a fumble recovery from sophomore Kellen Detrick.

"I am just so proud of these guys," HHS head coach Ryan Gatch said. "It was a total team effort. That is what it looks like when you have 11 guys working together. Our goal was to be 1-0 and we did that this week. Now, we can enjoy this for 24 hours, then it's time to get back to work and get ready for Lewistown."

Havre (1-0) will travel to Lewistown next Friday to face its old Central A rival. For full coverage of the Ponies win over Hardin, see Monday's edition of the Havre Daily News.
