News you can use

Hello, God. It's me, Mara

Price of beauty

Lord, You do have a sense of humor. Remember when a few of us girls were together chatting over coffee about getting our hair cut that afternoon, when one of the gals shared that her devotional that morning was called “The Price of Beauty?” Yes, we actually did giggle about that. Then one of the gals said that she and her hubby had just had their passport pictures taken the day before, then viewing the finished product, they saw hair sticking out on the side like a bristly old-fashioned shaving brush. They knew they had to do something and get it done soon, like that afternoon. After she gave us a few additional details, there were more giggles.

Everyone one of us wants to be beautiful. There’s everything “out there” that anyone could desire from exercise equipment to diet books to magazines declaring an effortless way to get slim. Ha ha! “Have you even been to a garage sale?” “Snooks” asked? “That’s where you see all the things for sale that folks have tried and then cast away — ‘been there, done that,”  We did agree with her.

There is nothing wrong with trying to look our best on the outside, but it’s the inside that really counts. The outside of us is not our permanent dwelling place but inside, our spirit is eternal. It would be best if we worked to improve the beauty therein, with Your help, Lord, for we already know we can’t do it on our own.

Lord, show us where we need improvement; we know we can’t do it alone. We read in Ezekiel 28:17 — “Your heart became proud because of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor.”  Lord, we need You to bless us and help us to become the person You want us to become.

Love, Mara
