Blue Pony spikers sweep Cowgirls on the road

The Havre High volleyball team continued its recent string of road games, and this past Saturday, the Blue Ponies paid a visit to the Conrad Cowgirls.

Havre and Conrad, a Class B opponent, have been meeting regularly in non-conference play the past few seasons and the two teams met again Saturday. But like they have the past few seasons, the Ponies did away with their Northern B rivals, defeating Conrad in straight sets 25-22, 25-20 and 25-11.

“The girls played really well,” HHS head coach Tamecia Jarvis said. “We got off to a little bit of a slow start in the first two sets, but we battled back and it was nice to see us finish after getting behind. Then we just kind of took control from there, we had a lot of girls that stepped up for us.”

Conrad did build an early lead in the first set against the Ponies and did the same in the second. However, Havre battled back in both, taking the first by three points and the second by five before dominating in the third and final set, 25-11. HHS is now 4-5 overall on the season and 1-1 in the Central A conference.

Many of the same faces were also big contributors in Conrad for the Ponies. Junior Sam Oliver continued her strong play for the Ponies, getting 20 assists to lead the way for Havre and six aces. Cassidy Acor also had a stellar performances for the Ponies, notching a team-high 12 kills along with two blocks. Jessa Chvilicek added eight kills and 2.5 blocks, while Caitlyn Terry also contributed with 11 digs.

“Our middles have been doing a nice job adjusting,” Jarvis said. “Our hitting has been much better. Both Cassidy and Jessa have been doing a good job, both of them have been mixing it up, and we have been trying to get some of our other hitters involved.”

The Ponies will have a busy week ahead of them with two home matches set for this week. The first will come Thursday night against Browning. That is set for 7 p.m. The Ponies will also host Cut Bank Saturday night inside the HHS gymnasium at approximately 5 p.m. Both matches will be part of Havre High's homecoming week, which also includes football, golf and cross country.
