New photographer joins the Havre Daily News team

Gen Yamaguchi’s experience has taken him all around the country and the world, then from Hawaii to Havre to join the Havre Daily News team.

Yamaguchi said his family lives in Hawaii and he moved there toward the end of his eight or nine years doing freelance photography.

Yamaguchi said he attended a photo trade school, earning a Bachelor of Arts in professional photography from Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California, before he did internships for large, medium and small newspapers including the Kansas City Star, The Tampa Bay Times/St. Petersburg Times and the daily news in Hays, Kansas.

His work as a freelance photographer took him abroad including overseas.

Yamaguchi said he enjoys traveling, seeing and experiencing different cultures. He has never before been to Montana and wanted to jump on the opportunity, he said, to see a different part of life.

He is a bit cautious about the cold weather, he added, but he is excited to experience different things.

Yamaguchi said he hopes to capture the daily-life moments in the region.

Some mundane things can look plain, he added, but it never is, and with his fresh eyes he wants to present the unique life of the area.

“Everyday life is the most important thing,” he said.

Daily life events are what people see every day, Yamaguchi said, and he hopes to capture that.
