Obituary - Marian Avis Coder

Marian Avis Coder died in Grand Junction, Colorado, at the age of 86.

Marian is survived by her husband, Emmett Haptonstall, three children, Cindy Rand of Grand Junction, Colorado, Tim Coder of Cameron, Montana, and Twyla Klundt of Whitefish, Montana. She is also survived by her sister Verla Manning of Rolla, North Dakota, 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Violet and Henry Phelps, three brothers, Tom Harold and Curtis Phelps, along with her late husband, Gene Coder of Havre, Montana.

Marian was born on August 26, 1932, in St. John, North Dakota, to Henry and Violet Phelps She attended St. John High School in St. John, North Dakota, and graduated as Valedictorian in 1950. She married Gene Coder in 1952 and moved to Havre, Montana, in 1954. Together, they raised their three children there. Family was the priority of her life, next to her faith in God. One of her greatest qualities was her gift of giving and she took tremendous pleasure in giving gifts, which was an expression of her love. Her love, concern and prayers were a blessing to each one. She will be greatly missed.

She resided in Havre until Gene's death in 2006. They were married 53 years.

In 2009 she moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, to be closer to her daughter Cindy Rand. After moving to Colorado, she met and married Emmett Haptonstall in 2014. They enjoyed 4 1/2 years of marriage until her death.

No funeral is scheduled by her request, but a private graveside remembrance will be held in Havre, Montana, at a future date.
