Last weekend, the general antelope season get underway, and now, we're just one week away from the start of the general deer and elk seasons.

Here's a look at some important dates that hunters should know about as hunting season kicks into high gear.

Archery season for deer and elk closes this Sunday, while general season for deer and elk opens Oct. 20 and runs through Nov. 25.

Also of note is the youth, deer only hunt. The special program, started by the Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks, will run Oct. 18-19. See the FWP website for special details on the hunt, and check back with our Outdoors section for a special story on the youth hunt in a couple of weeks.

For upland game birds, mountain grouse, partridge, sage grouse and sharp-tailed grouse opened Sept. 1. Mountain grouse, partridge and sharp-tails run until Jan. 1 while Sage closed back on Sept. 30. The fall turkey season runs until Jan. 1 as well.

The ever-popular pheasant season opened last weekend and will run until Jan. 1, as well.
